Position Overview

Our Client is a publicly traded renewable energy company focused on the development, construction, ownership and operation of solar energy and battery-storage projects across North America. Operating in a growing and evolving sector, they manage a complex, multi-entity structure and continue strengthening their financial reporting processes, internal controls, and supporting technology infrastructure.

Reporting to the Vice President, Finance, the Senior Financial Analyst will support the Company’s monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting requirements. The individual will prepare reporting schedules and account reconciliations, support consolidation of more than 40 entities, and assist with preparing IFRS-compliant financial statements, MD&A, and related disclosures. They will also support external audits, technical accounting research, loan-covenant reporting and ongoing improvements to the Company’s close, reporting and internal-control processes. Over time, the successful candidate may also contribute to the Company’s refinancing activities and planned implementation of NetSuite.

This is an attractive opportunity to move into a broad financial reporting position with exposure to a diverse range of IFRS matters, complex revenue-recognition issues and unique transactions within the renewable energy sector. The successful candidate will work closely with senior finance leadership, gain significant public-company reporting experience and have the opportunity to assume greater responsibility as their knowledge of the business develops.

Role Responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting schedules for balance-sheet and income-statement accounts.
  • Perform detailed account reconciliations, investigate variances and coordinate the resolution of outstanding items.
  • Support month-end, quarter-end and year-end close activities, including journal entries, accruals, adjustments and supporting documentation.
  • Assist with the consolidation of more than 40 entities, including intercompany reconciliations, elimination entries and consolidation adjustments.
  • Assist in preparing quarterly and annual consolidated financial statements, MD&A and related disclosures in accordance with IFRS.
  • Prepare supporting schedules, working papers and financial analyses required for external reporting.
  • Conduct technical accounting research and prepare documentation concerning new transactions, complex accounting matters and changes to IFRS.
  • Support quarterly reviews and annual audits by preparing working papers, responding to audit requests and coordinating required information across the organization.
  • Assist with quarterly loan-compliance reporting, including covenant calculations, compliance certificates and lender reporting packages.
  • Coordinate with accounting, operations, project teams, tax, legal and other departments to ensure transactions are accurately reflected in the financial statements.
  • Support and strengthen internal controls over financial reporting, including maintaining appropriate documentation and control evidence.
  • Identify and implement improvements to reconciliation, consolidation, close and financial reporting processes.
  • Assist with the standardization of financial reporting schedules and working-paper documentation.
  • Support the Vice President, Finance with refinancing activities, technical accounting matters, system implementation initiatives and other special projects.

After completing her Master’s in Geography at the University of Toronto, Katie worked in consulting in the environmental non-profit sector where she conducted policy analysis and delivered workshops on sustainable development. Katie continues to pursue her passions of environmental protection by volunteering with local environmental non-profit organizations.

Lisa is thrilled to be a part of the team at Thorek/Scott and Partners. Lisa’s deep background in financial services, relationship building, and customer service coupled with her background in operations and support has been instrumental to the firm’s Research and Operations division. Prior to joining Thorek/Scott and Partners, Lisa worked for over 10 years in a large Canadian Bank in front facing, client operational roles. Having worked for large organizations in the past, she is delighted to be part of a close-knit group and enjoys the upbeat office and friendly environment at Thorek/Scott and Partners.

Having worked as an equity research associate covering real estate and REITs, Sari has a strong understanding of the real estate industry. Sari is well known for her caring and friendly demeanour. She is passionate about helping people with an emphasis on providing an individualized human experience. She will often go above and beyond when coaching her candidates and clients throughout the recruitment process. Steven is a CPA who graduated with an honours bachelors degree in business from McMaster University & from Cornell University with an Executive MBA. Before joining Thorek/Scott he spent his career in industry, building large support service teams and also taking an active role in the overall corporate recruitment functions as a VP/CFO. He prides himself as a recruiter who is transparent, a great communicator and gives honest feedback.

Steven is passionate about travelling, having visited over 130 countries, and about his Toronto Maple Leafs.

Faye Thorek is an accomplished executive search consultant with over 40 years of experience in the Canadian recruitment market. Known for her keen insight and compassionate dedication to her work, Faye envisions herself as an advocate for those with whom she conducts business. Over the years, Faye has consulted numerous companies on how to best craft their strategic vision and then taken the lead on executing that mandate. She has spoken on recruitment and search issues to a wide range of audiences.

Michael Thorek is a seasoned specialist in executive search with extensive experience supporting the Canadian recruitment market.
